How to choose the right sofa size for your living room in Bhopal

Measure twice, sketch once, and pick the sofa that leaves your family room to move.

A living room with a sofa, side table and plants

Most sofa regrets come down to size: a set that looks grand in the showroom but swallows the room at home, or one so small that guests have to bring chairs. If you are furnishing a living room in Bhopal, ten minutes with a tape measure will save you a lot of trouble.

Step 1: Measure the room, not just the wall

Write down the length and width of the room in feet and inches. Then note the doors, windows, fans, switchboards and any pillar or AC unit that sticks out. Mark where the TV will sit, because the sofa should face it comfortably.

Also measure the path into the house: the main door, lift, staircase turns and the living room door. A sofa that cannot get through the door is a common and avoidable problem. Tell us these widths when you order and we will plan the frame accordingly.

Step 2: Leave space to walk

A simple rule of thumb: keep a clear walking path of about 2.5 to 3 ft between furniture and the doorways. If you want a centre table, leave roughly 1.5 to 2 ft between the table and the sofa seat so people can sit and get up easily.

These are guidelines, not laws. A joint family that gathers daily may want more open floor; a small flat may accept tighter gaps.

Step 3: Pick the layout

LayoutGood forWatch out for
3+1+1 setMedium to large rooms, families who host guestsNeeds space on three sides
L-shaped sofaUsing a corner well, TV watching, loungingHard to rearrange later
3+2 or 3-seater aloneSmall flats and narrow roomsFewer seats when guests come
2-seater plus chairsCompact rooms, a second sitting areaLess comfortable for long evenings

If your room is small, a smaller sofa is the honest answer. A lighter, simpler set will often look better than a big one squeezed in. We would rather tell you that than sell you a set that does not fit.

Step 4: Think about who sits there

  • Kids and elders: a seat that is not too low makes it easier to stand up.
  • Guests: count how many people usually visit at once.
  • Lounging: deeper seats suit people who like to put their feet up; firmer, upright seats suit formal rooms.

Step 5: Match the frame to your use

The frame decides how long a sofa lasts. Solid wood such as sheesham or teak holds up to daily use for years. Our comparison of sheesham, teak and mango will help you choose. You can see the kinds of pieces we make on our living room page.

Made to your measurements

Because we make to order, the sofa does not have to follow a standard catalogue size. If your wall is 9 ft 4 in, the sofa can be built for 9 ft 4 in. Read more about custom furniture, or send a photo of the room with the wall width on WhatsApp.

Questions people ask

Can I change the cushion fabric? Yes, the fabric is your choice. Ask us in the showroom to see what is available.

Should the sofa touch the wall? It can, but leaving a small gap helps with cleaning and lets the wall breathe in the monsoon.

What if my room is very small? Choose a 2-seater or 3-seater and add a lighter chair or stool for guests.

Come and sit on one

Sizes on paper are one thing; sitting is another. Visit our showroom on Kolar Road, Bhopal, bring your room measurements, and try a few seat heights and depths before you decide.
