Most families in Bhopal ask us the same thing before ordering a dining table: "How many seats should I take?" Too small and guests stand around the kitchen. Too big and you are squeezing past chairs every day. Here is how we help customers decide.
Start with the room, not the family
Measure the space where the table will stand, and mark it on the floor with newspaper or tape. Then check that you can still walk around it. As a rule of thumb, leave about 3 ft (90 cm) behind each chair so people can pull out and sit down, and a little more if a door or passage runs along that side.
Typical sizes at a glance
| Seats | Typical table size | Room needed (approx.) | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 | 3 × 2.5 ft to 4 × 2.5 ft | 9 × 8 ft | Small flats, couples, small families |
| 6 | 5 × 3 ft | 11 × 9 ft | Most families, occasional guests |
| 8 | 6 × 3.5 ft | 12 × 10 ft | Joint families, frequent hosting |
These are common starting points. Because we make to order, the table can be cut to your room instead of the nearest standard size.
When a 4 seater is enough
If you live in a compact flat and usually eat as two to four people, a 4 seater keeps the room open. A round or square top often fits a small corner better than a long rectangle.
When to choose 6 seater
A 6 seater is the most popular size for a reason: it fits an everyday family of four and still seats a couple of guests. If you are unsure, this is usually the safe middle.
When 8 seaters make sense
Choose 8 seats only if the room really allows it and you host often, for festivals, family dinners or relatives staying over. A large table in a small room is the most common regret we hear about.
Smart ways to save space
- Use a bench on the wall side. It tucks in fully and seats children more tightly than chairs.
- Pick a slimmer top. A 2.5 ft width works for four people sitting opposite each other.
- Choose a round table if the room is nearly square.
Which wood for the top?
Sheesham is the usual choice for tops that see daily use, and teak suits a dining area near a humid kitchen or balcony. Our wood comparison explains the differences, and you can see current options in our dining collection.
A quick way to test your choice
Before you order, try this at home. Place the chairs you already have around the marked area and sit in them for a few minutes. Ask someone to walk past behind you. If they pass without you standing up, the size works. If you are unsure between two sizes, tell us both and we can talk through which one suits your room and your habits.
Think about height and chairs too
A normal dining table stands around 30 in high, and chairs are usually about 18 in from floor to seat. Chairs with arms need a little more space per person than plain ones, so a 4 seater with armchairs may feel like a 3 seater. Let us know what chairs you prefer when you plan the table.
Questions people ask
Can I add seats later? Sometimes a bench lets you squeeze in one or two extra people. Tell us at the start if you often host guests.
Should the table be the same size as the room allows? No. Always leave walking space first. A slightly smaller table you can move around is better than a full one you cannot.
Can the table be made to an odd size? Yes, that is what made-to-order furniture is for. Send us the room measurements on WhatsApp.
